World Games

1986
World Games (1986) features eight sporting events inspired by international traditions, including the Scottish caber toss, Mexican cliff diving, Canadian log rolling, and American barrel jumping. Other events include sumo wrestling, bull riding, weightlifting, and slalom skiing. Players can compete alone or with others, choosing individual events or completing the full sequence. Each event presents distinct challenges, with varying control schemes and viewpoints. Timing and joystick precision are emphasized throughout, though some events—like log rolling and bull riding—are notably more difficult to master. A few events, such as the cliff dive and skiing, stand out for their fluid visuals and ambient sound design. While reception varied across events, the game’s wide variety of challenges helped prevent repetition and encouraged experimentation with different play styles.
Another entry in the expansive The Game Series from Epyx, we’d like to revive this title and make it as much a lesson on world cultures as a sporting game.  The caber toss is cool, but how about ostrich racing, zorbing, shin kicking, or even chess boxing?   It’s a great title with a great brand and part of a great series.  All that’s needed is your great game studio….
