Studio of Greetings

1992
Planned for release in 1992, Studio of Greetings would have been Epyx’s most ambitious foray into home publishing—a deluxe greeting card, banner, and poster design suite built on the Print Magic 2.0 engine. Designed for serious hobbyists and desktop creators, the package would include everything needed to produce professional-quality cards from home. Bundled with over 400 exportable graphics and its own font set, Studio of Greetings offered broad compatibility with The Print Shop and supported popular formats like .PMG, .PCX, and .BMP. Its redesigned interface and enhanced printing support allowed for high-resolution output—uncommon for consumer-grade tools of the time. A massive printed companion book featured over 700 example designs, organized by occasion, offering inspiration and templates for users to customize or recreate. n.b. The above is based on only three articles – Wikipedia, Computer Gaming World, and the New York Times.  We’re not sure this product existed.  See the Licensing notes for more details.
After a lot of research, we don’t think this product was actually released.  There’s some anecdotal evidence that a product was announced, with a screenshot that seems to be from Print Magic, but we couldn’t find any actual product artifacts.  We only discovered two articles in the press, and one entry on a developers LinkedIn bio (we’ve reached out to them).  There was an article in the New York Times, and another (with a presumed screenshot) in Computer Gaming World Issue 96, with the following copy: STUDIO OF GREETINGS!: The “Godzilla” of computerized greetings supplements, this large and heavy package features 400 new graphics that not only work with Print Shop, but can be exported as .PMG, .PCX and .BMP files as well. The software also includes the Print Magic 2.0 program, complete with its own fonts. A huge tome with 700+ samples cards (organized by occasion) and documentation for using Print Magic and painting custom graphics oneself. While some stationery rounds out the package, this product is striking as the perfect gift for those who love Print Shop. IBM ($69.96). Circle Reader Service #8. In any case, you can do more with Canva in five minutes today than in a million years with Print Magic or Studio of Greetings (if it ever even existed).  So we’re going to archive this product and leave it to early 1990’s lore, like the notorious Neiman Marcus Cookie Story.
