Street Sports Football

1988
Street Sports Football (1988), or Street Sports American Football in markets where Football means The Beautiful Game, takes the intensity of American football off the gridiron and into the neighborhood. Two teams of three players—each hand-picked from a colorful roster of local kids—face off in a no-pads, no-refs street match where the first to score a touchdown wins. Players assume the roles of quarterback and two receivers, selecting offensive plays from a shared playbook or even designing custom formations. Gameplay alternates between offense and defense, with teams trying to advance the ball ten yards in four downs by passing or running. Each kid comes with distinct strengths, whether it’s passing accuracy, speed, or toughness. The joystick-driven action allows for lateral passes, punts, and real-time tackling. The side-view presentation includes helpful indicators and offers flexibility in rules, scoring targets, and difficulty. An added layer of depth comes from the Playmaker editor, which lets players create and save custom strategies, altering routes and formations to fit their style of play. While limited to a 3-on-3 format, the game captures the spirit of backyard football with a dose of arcade energy and neighborhood charm.
Like the other Street Sports titles, Street Sports Soccer, Basketball, and Baseball, this title is available for licensing and could make for an entertaining change from the hyperrealism of the EA Sports titles.  Perhaps a revival could include some well-known streets or quirky or customizable characters.  Reach out to us to explore some possibilities.
