In Killer Satellites (1983), players must defend their hometown from rogue orbital weapons platforms that have mysteriously begun attacking Earth. Piloting an experimental craft, the player navigates above the city’s forcefield, intercepting satellites detected by radar before they can breach the defenses. Players must manage limited fuel reserves and carefully monitor their laser’s heat levels to avoid overheating. As the game progresses, dangerous meteors begin appearing, adding a new level of threat—they can’t be destroyed but will annihilate the player’s ship on contact. With its scrolling playfield, radar-based tracking, and layered hazards, Killer Satellites adds urgency and tactical depth to the Supercharger library’s action lineup.
Written by the same developer who wrote the BMX game for California Games, Killer Satellites is a Defender-style action game where you protect the town from falling [killer] satellites. There’s a
narrated playthrough from The No Swear Gamer that sheds some more light on the title. Like the rest of the Supercharger series, we’d like to revive this title.
