Jumpman Junior

1983
A streamlined sequel to the original Jumpman, Jumpman Junior from 1983 retains the same fast-paced, bomb-defusing platform gameplay while introducing 12 all-new levels. Redesigned for cartridge-based systems like the Commodore 64 and Atari 8-bit, the game sacrifices quantity for tighter, more varied stage designs. Players once again guide Jumpman across ropes, ladders, and platforms to disarm bombs scattered throughout each level. Hazards include homing bullets, deadly fires, bouncing “hellstones,” moving ladders, and disappearing platforms—each adding unique twists to the challenge. Like its predecessor, players can choose from eight different speed settings to balance difficulty and bonus scoring potential. Critics praised Jumpman Junior for its inventive level design and faithful retention of the original’s mechanics. Though it features fewer levels than the first game, many consider its stages among the series’ best. It remains a standout example of early platformer design and one of the most beloved titles in Epyx’s catalog.
Jumpman and Jumpman Junior both deserve a revival for modern gamers.  There’s a great playthough at this link, and we think modern audiences and the retro crowd would love to see this back in all its glory.  Here’s an idea for your consideration -> use the neon-style artwork from the Epyx boxes as the treatment for a revival.
