Fireball (1982) reimagines Breakout as a chaotic juggling act. Instead of controlling a paddle, players guide an animated juggler who keeps multiple fireballs in motion while demolishing brick formations. The game includes five unique modes—Knock-a-Block, Firetrap, Marching Blocks, Migrating Blocks, and Cascade—each introducing different mechanics like shifting bricks or trapped fireballs. The game was praised for its innovation and kinetic pacing, standing out as one of the most inventive block-breaker variants on the 2600.
This was a like a super-duper breakout for the Atari 2600, with support for four paddles!
Does the world need another breakout game? Yes, especially if you think about modeling it after the Pitbull song with a bar and dancing girls and the roof on fire. And instead of the juggler in the classic version, this one has a charming bald guy in a dinner jacket tossing what else — fireballs…As he throws them (and they bounce around destroying the club) we enter the chorus of the song “We’re taking it.. we’re taking it… we’re taking it down….” Each level culminates with him turning into a giant fireball (as he sings it, of course)…
Then we make the next level involving knocking things down and yelling Timber where a character like Ke$ha joins Pitbull. Those songs are already 11 and 12 years old. They need to be revived, along with this game. Get Christina in for a “Feel This Moment” level. J-Lo on the dance floor for a level?
I’m telling you, this idea is gold. A whole video game based on Pitbull’s catalog. We just have to work out the music licensing 🎵
