Another 1989 launch title for the Atari Lynx, Electrocop is set in the year 2069. The President’s daughter has been kidnapped by a rogue AI known as the Criminal Brain. You are Electrocop—an elite cybernetic enforcer—and you’ve got one hour to breach the heavily guarded Steel Complex and bring her home. Originally developed as a launch title for the Atari Lynx, Electrocop showcases the handheld’s graphical capabilities with its distinctive third-person pseudo-3D visuals.
Armed with a variety of upgradable weapons, you’ll blast your way through mechanized enemies like Stingrays, Walkers, and Wall Cannons while hacking locked doors via in-game computer terminals. These terminals let you deploy anti-virus programs, gather intel, and even play built-in minigames like Meteors and Out Break. Healing items and weapon repairs are critical—every second counts.
Designed by Greg Omi with support from Lynx hardware co-creator Chuck Sommerville, Electrocop was a bold experiment in futuristic storytelling, 3D perspective, and handheld action. It remains a defining entry in the Lynx library and a unique glimpse at Epyx’s creative ambition.
Another launch title for the planned Epyx Handy (which became the Atari Lynx), there are some rumors that this might have been originally conceived as a more futuristic sequel to
Impossible Mission, which we also want to revive for modern audiences. If you are a fan of the genre, we encourage you to watch some playthroughs online and reach out to us with ideas on a revival.
