Coil Cop

1987
A sequel to Thing on a Spring, Coil Cop (1987) brings back the springy hero for another colorful platforming adventure. The villainous Toy Goblin has resumed production at his toy factory, churning out evil toys that must be stopped. To shut it all down, players must guide Thing through 11 expansive levels in search of four essential computer components: a tape, floppy disk, listing paper, and ROM chip. The game’s environments are playful and chaotic, filled with bouncy platforms, conveyor belts, sliding slopes, and maze-like pipe systems that act as fast-travel routes between areas. Random “?” tiles introduce surprises, from helpful bonuses to instant-squash hazards. Combat isn’t the focus—Thing must dodge rather than fight, maintaining his oil level to avoid rusting into a game-over. Coil Cop mixes exploration and reflex-based platforming with a distinctly British sense of charm. Its pipe-hopping gameplay predates similar mechanics found in Sonic the Hedgehog, and it remains a notable example of imaginative late-era C64 platform design.
Like Thing on a Spring, this title is the IP of Gremlin Graphics.  There are more details on the Thing on a Spring page as well as on the Licensor page.
