Championship Wrestling (1986) is an arcade-style wrestling game featuring eight fictional characters, each with their own style and personality—such as K.C. Colossus, Prince Vicious, and The Berserker. The game includes a repertoire of over 25 wrestling moves, from spin kicks and flying dropkicks to body slams, rope rebounds, and the crowd-pleasing “atomic drop.” Wrestlers can even toss their opponents out of the ring, and scoring rewards players for more complex maneuvers.
Players can face off in one-on-one bouts or enter into a larger championship tournament involving up to eight participants. A two-player hot-seat mode adds to the competitive replay value. Originally intended to carry the WWF license, the game retained its over-the-top flair even without official branding, carving out its own place in the mid-1980s wrestling game scene.
We know the current official WWE games for mobile and consoles are pretty darned amazing. But we also know there’s a large group of people who don’t really want photorealistic violence, and instead prefer something a little more detached. That’s why we’re looking for a studio who wants to build a retro-style pixelated wrestling game with much more cartoonish characters. If you’d like to help build something a little cuter, perhaps a little corny, but super-fun to please, please reach out to us.
