Silicon Warrior

1983
Set in the year 2084, Silicon Warrior (1983) pits elite programmers from rival tech Houses against one another in a battle for the secrets of the Tenth Generation Computer—an ultra-intelligent machine created by the superhuman SYBORGS. Each player assumes the role of a “warrior” sent by the Houses of Peanut, Apple, Adam, or Pong to out-program their opponents on a futuristic battle grid in deep space. The objective is to teleport between chips on the grid and program five in a row—vertically, horizontally, or diagonally—while fending off enemy warriors who can erase, hijack, or corrupt your progress. Success requires tactical movement, precision laser fire, and careful energy management. Players who take damage from enemy lasers or fall into SYBORG-programmed Black Hole “Glitches” are sent back to their Power Pyramid to recover. The game escalates through multiple levels, introducing hazards like black holes, laser combat, and shields. A range of strategies—from brute-force aggression to stealthy chip manipulation—are available, and only those with the best tactical foresight will reveal the Source Code and become Master Silicon Warrior. A unique blend of arcade action and abstract strategy, Silicon Warrior stands out for its imaginative premise, isometric visual style, and emphasis on competitive, grid-based gameplay. Designed for up to four players (human or computer-controlled), it remains one of the more conceptually daring entries in the Epyx catalog.
This was a visually impressive game and there’s a playthrough (with endearing comments) that’s worth a quick review.  It’s not just about shooting your enemies; you have to secure various spaces on the grid while ensuring they don’t get compromised by others, and you don’t get killed in the process.  It’s just the right combination of strategy and arcade that might … with some polish … make for a fun mobile game today.
