Metro-Cross (1985) is a fast-paced side-scrolling obstacle race originally developed by Namco and ported to platforms including the Commodore 64, Atari ST, Amstrad CPC, and ZX Spectrum. You play as the Runner, racing through 32 futuristic levels filled with hazards, springboards, and bonus cans, all under tight time pressure.
Gameplay centers around quick reflexes and pattern recognition. Your character runs automatically, and it’s up to you to dodge pitfalls, bouncing tires, electrical walls, and even mischievous mice by jumping, switching lanes, or grabbing a skateboard for added speed. Bonus cans can pause time or increase points—if you kick them just right.
Originally an arcade hit, Metro-Cross blends platformer instincts with arcade energy and time-based challenge, making it a unique entry in the action-racing genre of the era.
This arcade title belongs to Namco, so we don’t have any ability to license it. It seems there was an attempt to revive some of their older titles under the
Namco Generations brand, but it looks like it was shuttered.
