Dunjonquest: The Keys of Acheron (1981) is the first expansion pack for Hellfire Warrior, designed by Paul Reiche III. In this module, players are tasked by the wizard Abosandrus to recover four magical gems — the eponymous Keys of Acheron — scattered across space and time. Retrieving the keys is the only way to prevent the demon lord Kronus from invading Earth. Each level introduces a radically different setting and challenge: face a dragon or find a hidden passage in The Abode of the Dragon; survive prehistoric perils in The Temple in the Jungle; navigate hazards like steam vents and fungal foes in The Crystal Caves; and sail the Shadowland of Kronus, a bleak future filled with kraken-infested seas and towering waves. With imaginative worldbuilding, increased variety in enemies and environments, and persistent pursuit by Kronus himself, Keys of Acheron expanded the Dunjonquest formula into something far more mythic and otherworldly.
Like the
Temple of Apshai Trilogy, we think there’s a great opportunity for a Hellfire Warrior trilogy. This is the first expansion pack, and along with the original
Hellfire Warrior and the second expansion pack
Danger in Drindisti, these titles are ready for licensing and a new beginning.
