Street Sports Basketball

1987
Street Sports Basketball (1987) ditches the hardwood arenas for alleyways, parking lots, and schoolyards—places where real kids play the game. Players choose from a cast of ten neighborhood characters, each with their own skill set, to build three-player teams and face off in casual half-court matches. Courts include urban obstacles like oil slicks and potholes that influence gameplay, adding some streetwise unpredictability to the experience. All the standard basketball moves are here—passes, steals, layups, and dunks—with a simple mechanic where intercepting the dribbled ball leads to a turnover. The game supports one or two players and features three computer difficulty levels. As part of the Street Sports series, this installment focuses on fun, fast-paced action with a neighborhood flair rather than professional polish.
Fun, gritty, and huge on playability, this is one of the more endearing titles in the Street Sports collection, all of which we’d like to revive.
